Scrap Africa Sketch #44: Forever

Oh how I loved playing with this sketch! Denise van Deventer has really outdone herself with this one!

20150203-blog_forever.jpg

I used papers and elements from the Kaisercraft Key to My Heart collection and enjoyed combining the romantic look with some grungy stamps.

20150203-grunge.jpg

20150203-heart.jpg

The heart was drawn with a Sew Stamper.

20150203-layout.jpg

I realised afterwards that the barbed wire stamp around the title might be a bit creepy. I love you forever... (and ever and ever and will do anything and everything to keep you from ever leaving me...)
Lol! But my sense of humour has always been slightly evil so I guess it suits me.

20150203-title.jpg

This little cluster contains a brooch that used to belong to my mom. She is always passing on little trinkets for me to use in scrapbooking.

20150203-cluster.jpg

And finally, the gorgeous sketch.

Scrap Africa Challenge 43: One Little Word for 2015

For our One Little Word challenge at Scrap Africa I was inspired by a recent tutorial by Gabrielle Pollacco to create something a little bit out of my comfort zone. I love mixed media and I love working on canvas and I have been wanting to do lots more of it. I think this was a good kick start to my creative year. I didn't do quite as much to my canvas as Gabrielle did - just used the general idea as inspiration.

20150115-blog_fearless.jpg

I chose “Fearless” as my word for 2015. Last year my word was “Believe” - believe in myself that I can do whatever I put my heart and mind to and believe in God that He will equip me and bring me through any task He sets before me.
This year I have decided to JUST DO. No over thinking, no worrying about what other people are going to think, no wondering if I'm up to it or not - just let go and make it happen - Fearlessly.

20150115-title.jpg

I used a branch chippie by Creative Embellishments - love their products!

20150115-branch.jpg

And one of Ingvild Bolme's new Stamp 'n Add designs.

20150115-butterfly.jpg

My first choice for OLW for this year was “Challenge.” I work well under pressure and deadlines are a great inspiration as they force me to use my time productively. I have found that I can challenge myself to do more and be more creative. That is my goal for this year. So far I'm off to a great start, having started my decor project with Annie Sloan chalk paints. My house is currently in a state of disorder that I am too ashamed to let anybody see but it's my mess and I know how awesome it's going to look when it is done. I have furniture in different stages of completion standing and lying around and I am constantly covered in paint and wax. What a great holiday I'm having. Ha! I will post pictures next week when most of it will be done.

If you read this post, let me know what your One Little Word for 2015 is.

Scrap Africa Sketch #42: Cheese!

We have a sketch challenge up at Scrap Africa and it is another amazing one!

My mom dug out these photos of us at a photo booth in Cape Town when I was about 8 or 9. I don't even remember having these photos taken. What a special treasure.

20150105-blog_cheese.jpg

20150105-photos.jpg

I used the Happy Snaps collection from Kaisercraft. My background is misted with Enmarc Dazzles.

Scrap Africa Challenge: Christmas/December/Holidays in...

I know it sounds clichι but I seriously cannot believe that we have almost reached the end of another year. I feel like I am still planning out my goals for the year and now it's over. I guess I have reached several milestones this year that I can be proud of. One of them was making the Scrap Africa design team. Another one was getting on track to start losing some of this weight that has been holding me back. I'm down 12 kg in just over 3 months, about a third of my overall goal.

The current challenge at Scrap Africa is running until the end of the month (or should I say the end of the year?) The challenge is to create a layout, card or OTP and include journaling about what Christmas/December/holidays are like in your country, household, family, etc.

I created a layout using photos from our 2013 staff year end function at my work.

20141221-blog_christmas.jpg

Our company usually has separate functions for factory staff, drivers, management and admin. The managers and admin girls get to take their kids along if we choose a venue that is suitable for children. Last year's function was held at a wine estate and the kids had a great time playing on the jungle gym and rolling down a small grass hill.

20141221-title.jpg

The baubles are from Creative Embellishments, embossed with Perfect Pearls.

20141221-baubles.jpg

The papers are from Webster's Pages All that Glitters and Tim Holtz Christmas Memories.

Scrap Africa Sketch 40: You just love being a girl

That's right! My girl is such a girly girl. She loves new clothes, prancing around and doing girly things. And I love watching her do it.

The current challenge at Scrap Africa is a sketch challenge and it really is one of the coolest sketches I have seen. I loved working with this one!

20141203-blog_girl.jpg

I started with some 7 Dots Studio paper, added texture using a stencil, moulding paste and Dazzles and wrapped it up with some sequins and a roller stamp.

20141203-texture1.jpg

20141203-texture2.jpg

The circle frame chippie is from Creative Embellishments and it was painted with metallic gold craft paint from Dala.

And finally, the sketch.

Scrap Africa Challenge: Tag It

The challenge at Scrap Africa for the next 2 weeks is to create a layout, card or OTP using at least 2 tags.

20141117-blog_life_is_brighter.jpg

I used to vintage tags that I purchased from the Vintage Suitcase stand at Hobby X.

20141117-tag1.jpg

20141117-tag2.jpg

My title is a Celebr8 chippie, painted gold with Liquitex acrylic ink.

20141117-title.jpg

My background was created with gesso and a variety of mists and acrylic ink. The photo is my current favourite of my daughter and a friend, taken when my sister-in-law and I were testing a venue for wedding photos. The venue worked out great!

Scrap Africa Challenge #37: List It

There is a new challenge at Scrap Africa and it's a fun one! Create a project that includes a list with at least 10 items.

I created a layout of #guesswho and made a list of her favourite things: movie, song, food, etc.

I used paper from the new Nest Collection by Webster's Pages, as well as All That Glitters. {gasp} What gorgeous collections! I am still waiting for Strawberry Fields and Ocean Melody to hit the South African shores.

First DT project for Scrap-a-Doodles

Today I want to share my first DT project from Scrap-a-Doodles, possibly the largest scrapbooking retailer in South Africa.

I received an abundance of supplies from them and was asked to create a layout and a card, both of which are being displayed this weekend at Hobby X in Cape Town.

20141003-card_04.jpg

For my card I used the following supplies:

Paper:
Core’dinations Tim Holtz – weathered wood
Core’dinations Tim Holtz – walnut stain
Bo Bunny Souvenir – Vacation
Bo Bunny Souvenir – Journey

Embellishments:
Spellbinders Nestabilities – Heirloom Legacy
Oricraft decorative lace tape, self-adhesive – doilie
May Arts velvet centred ribbon with crochet edges – rose/ivory
Prima Marketing – Delight collection – wood buttons
Graphic 45 – French Country collection – die cut chipboard tags
Bo Bunny – Madeleine collection – brads

I used Core’dinations Tim Holtz – weathered wood, as the backing, trimmed to 19 x 30cm, scored and folded in half.

Next I die cut the large frame and small frame from Bo Bunny Souvenir – Vacation, using the Spellbinders Nestabilities – Heirloom Legacy.
The oval was die cut oval from Core’dinations Tim Holtz – walnut stain, using the same die set, and the edges distressed and inked.
The die cuts were layered and adhered to the top left of the card.

20141003-card_01.jpg

I fussy cut elements from the bottom right of page of Bo Bunny Souvenir – Journey, distressed and inked edges and adhered to the bottom of the card.

I also added a piece of Oricraft decorative lace tape, self-adhesive – doilie to the left of the layered die cuts and bottom right of the card and a piece of May Arts velvet centred ribbon with crochet edges – rose/ivory to the top right of the card.

20141003-card_02.jpg

I added the following embellishments:
Buttons from Prima Marketing – Delight collection – wood buttons
Chipboard tags from Graphic 45 – French Country collection – die cut chipboard tags
Brads from Bo Bunny – Madeleine collection – brads

20141003-card_03.jpg

Finally I fussy cut some of the Scrabble style letters from Bo Bunny Souvenir – Vacation for my title/sentiment and adhered them to the top of the card with foam squares.

20141003-card_04.jpg

I will be uploading my layout and a tutorial tomorrow.

If you are in Cape Town, come and visit the Scrap-a-Doodles stand at Hobby X and see the rest of the Design Team's gorgeous creations.
